Cognac, the brandy known throughout the world, can be enjoyed naturally on its own but also for a very long time in cocktails. From historical recipes to the most current ones, follow us to learn all about the history of cognac-based cocktails.
As early as the 19th century, cognac was found in the first cocktails . They have often become great classics in bars around the world, from New York to Shanghai and from London to… Cognac.
Among the very first cocktail recipes was the Mint Julep . Created in 1800 in the United States, its recipe is simple: cognac, fresh mint and sugar!
A little later, around 1830, the Sazerac was created in France . Its recipe is more elaborate, combining cognac, sugar, Bitter Peychaud (based on gentian), absinthe and lemon. It is still a classic of great cognac-based cocktails.
Thirty years later, so in 1860, Cognac Collins was invented in London . The recipe is still valid:
- Cognac 40 ml
- Lemon juice 20 ml
- Sugar 15 ml
- Sparkling water 120 ml
A new generation of mixologists, new and original recipes

The Cognac Summit recipe
- 4 thin slices of ginger
- 4 to 5 ice cubes
- 4 cl of VSOP cognac
- 1 lime zest
- 6 cl of artisanal lemonade
- 1 thin slice of cucumber

Directly to the glass
Start by placing 4 slices of gingers in the glass and crush them with a pestle.
Add the ice cubes and pour in the cognac.
Add a lime zest, complete with artisanal lemonade
Decorate with a slice of cucumber.
