I’m different, so what?

“Tagging people” is a common activity that everyone does. Usually, people do it to reassure themselves that they are not left in the dark. For example, if we see a stranger, we see all the physical characteristics that allow him to affix a label. Then follow all the unimaginable descriptions, just based on a person’s clothes or face.

Seems like it’s reassuring to know a person based solely on their appearance, not knowing their name, or their life.

I stopped categorizing people the day I learned that people don’t see me for who I really am. If people are wrong about me, how wrong am I?

I have known that many people label me as “embarrassed” when I just don’t want to talk to everyone. Afterwards, I understood that when we feel judged or given a label that does not represent us, we want to become what people expect of us. A friend once told me that I was her only friend that no one could categorize and that’s good. I remain a mystery, because I am not like everyone else.

You have to be handsome, kind, open, generous, polite, efficient, rich, etc. You have to be perfect.

We will agree that no one is, under any circumstances.

Instead of adapting to fit into the mold of the ideal in our society, we have to learn to be different.

I think back to Lady Gaga’s famous hit “Born this way”, “  Cause you’re born this way baby  ”. We have to learn to accept ourselves in what makes us different and that’s fine.

I’m in my thirties, I don’t have a partner, I don’t have children, I don’t have a home, and I don’t have a posh job in a big company. I’m living the life that’s right for me right now. It’s okay to say that I want to live the life that’s right for me, but it shocks some people.

I always wanted to make my loved ones proud by having the same life as everyone else, because it is reassuring. We all take the same path and are part of the same aquarium as the others.

Have you ever been judged because you didn’t have a 9 to 5 job? Have you ever been judged because you weren’t wearing the right clothes? Were you judged because you were doing something out of the ordinary? The important thing is to do what makes you happy!

Do you like your job because it’s exciting and you have a flexible schedule? Well done, because several people would like to be in your place.

Do you always wear colorful clothes? Dare to add color, that’s what brings sunshine to the lives of people around you.

Are you doing something out of the ordinary? This is called the extraordinary, keep it up!

Are you different from the people around you? And then, what does that change?

Your goal in life is to take care of your own happiness, not that of everyone else.

Accept your differences, learn to love yourself and tell yourself that you color people’s lives thanks to your differences from your side…. Extraordinary.
