“I did leave.”
“You know what I mean.”
Leo placed the tool down.
“For years, I thought returning would mean William won. Then Sophie found me.”
“She needed you.”
“I needed her too.”
He looked around the room.
“She reminded me that losing a title did not mean I lost what I knew how to do.”
Elena sat across from him.
“I saw your uniform before I saw you.”
“Most people did.”
“I’m sorry.”
Leo nodded.
“I know.”
The apology did not erase the past.
But unlike the company’s original incident report, it did not attempt to.
Outside the glass walls, Sophie and Tyler approached carrying a bag of pastries.
“We brought emergency supplies,” Sophie announced.
“For what emergency?” Elena asked.
“Leo forgot dinner.”
“I was working.”
“That is what you say when you forget things.”
Tyler placed a pastry in front of his father.
Sophie gave one to Elena.
The four of them sat around the lab table beneath drawings and equations left by children.
There were no investors.
No cameras.
No government officials.
Only two parents who had spent years believing strength meant carrying everything alone, and two children who had taught them otherwise.
Predictix continued forecasting markets, hospital demand, and public resources.
Its systems became more accurate because Leo restored their ability to question themselves.

Elena had built a company devoted to predicting the future.
Yet none of its algorithms could have predicted that a napkin puzzle in a basement would save Sophie, restore Leo, and force an entire organization to confront a five-year lie.
