Corrections & Clarifications
How to report an error and how any correction would be labelled.
Good journalism fixes its mistakes openly. This page explains how readers can report an error and how corrections are intended to be handled on BreakingNews24hr.
Current status of the demo edition
This is a demonstration site and no corrections log has been published yet. Its stories are fictional and illustrative, so there is no historical record of corrections to show. If the site ever carries a log, it will appear on this page.
How to report a mistake
- Email [email protected] with the subject line "Correction".
- Give the headline, the sentence in question and what you believe is wrong.
- Include a source or document that supports your view, if you have one.
We read every report, but in this demo edition we cannot promise a fixed response time.
How corrections are labelled
- Correction: a factual error was fixed. The note states what was wrong and what is now correct.
- Clarification: the original was accurate but unclear or incomplete. The note adds the missing context.
- Update: new information has arrived since publication. The original text stays recognisable.
Our principles
Corrections should appear on the story itself, near the top, with the date of the change. We should not quietly rewrite an article so that the original error disappears. Serious errors should also be flagged wherever the story was shared, as far as we are able.
A correction is not an admission that the whole story is unreliable, and we should not treat it as a failure to be hidden. It is the system working as intended.
BreakingNews24hr is a demonstration edition: every story, name, organisation and figure on this site is fictional and illustrative.
